UAE e-invoicing 2027: What traders and distributors must do now

UAE e-invoicing 2027: What traders and distributors must do now

The UAE is moving from PDF and paper invoices to structured electronic invoices exchanged through accredited providers and reported to the Federal Tax Authority. For trading companies that issue hundreds of invoices a month, getting ready for UAE e-invoicing for traders needs to start now, not in December.

Key dates in UAE e-invoicing for traders

Who Appoint an ASP by E-invoicing mandatory from
Voluntary adopters / pilot group Not required 1 July 2026
Businesses with revenue of AED 50 million or more 30 October 2026 1 January 2027
Businesses with revenue below AED 50 million 31 March 2027 1 July 2027
Government entities (B2G) Not required 1 October 2027

The first phase covers business-to-business invoices. The ASP deadline for large businesses was moved from 31 July to 30 October 2026 by Ministerial Decision No. 66/2026; the go-live date of 1 January 2027 did not change.

What is changing

  • Structured data, not PDFs. Invoices are exchanged as machine-readable data in a standard format.
  • Accredited Service Providers. Businesses exchange invoices through an ASP on a Peppol-based network, which also reports data to the FTA.
  • Near real-time reporting. Invoice data reaches the tax authority much sooner than a VAT return.

Why traders feel it most

Distributors issue high volumes of invoices, credit notes and returns. Every one must carry correct customer tax details, VAT amounts and references. Errors that today are fixed quietly at VAT-return time will surface immediately.

A practical readiness checklist

  1. Confirm which phase you fall into, based on annual revenue.
  2. Clean your customer master: legal names, tax registration numbers and addresses.
  3. Make sure every credit note references its original invoice.
  4. Choose and appoint an Accredited Service Provider before your deadline.
  5. Ask your ERP vendor how invoice data will reach your ASP.
  6. Test with real invoices before your go-live date.

How Square Loop helps

Clean e-invoices start with clean data. Square Loop already holds invoices as structured records rather than documents: tax applied on every line, input and output VAT posted to the ledger, credit notes that must reference their original invoice, and a VAT Return report. Sales invoices carry the customer’s tax details from the customer master. Square Loop does not connect directly to an ASP, so talk to our team about your e-invoicing timeline and the export your provider needs.
